Adel Neighbourhood plan

The Adel Neighbourhood Plan has now been finalised and is ready to be voted on by Adel residents in the Referendum to be held on Thursday 5th June.   A copy of the final Plan can be downloaded here:  Adel Neighbourhood Plan – Final Version

At the Referendum you will be able to vote to say whether you support the formal adoption of the Adel Neighbourhood Plan by Leeds City Council.  If residents do vote in favour then the Plan will become part of the Council’s plans for the area and will be taken into consideration by the Council when assessing planning applications.   It has taken a long time for the Neighbourhood Plan to come to fruition but the draft plan has now been independently scrutinised and will be supported by Leeds City Council if it is endorsed by the local community.

A group of local residents have worked to shape the plan, incorporating the wishes of the local community, protecting Adel’s greenspace and ensuring it complies with planning law.

The aim of the plan is first to protect what we already have – Adel’s green spaces, high quality housing, historic areas and character. Secondly, we hope that it will also be used to improve the area rather than just maintain it.

As with other elections you will be able to vote at your local polling station or by postal vote.

The appendices and other background documents that were submitted with the Neighbourhood Plan can be found on this page.

The following is an extract from the government’s website about the role of neighbourhood planning in the community.  It helps to explain why we feel it’s important that the Adel Plan is adopted:

Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. They are able to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided, and grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead. Neighbourhood planning provides a powerful set of tools for local people to plan for the types of development to meet their community’s needs and where the ambition of the neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.
